Digression: On unninstalling Pinterest

(The only reason you're reading this is my need to rant and the lack of people to rant to about it)

Look, I'm from 1998. That means I was there for the beggining of social media: Orkut (you are SO missed), MSN, facebook and instagram when they were launched — and cool —, snapchat, medium, dubsmash, tiktok, weheartit & wescribe (rip both).

Throughout all my social media years, I had an on-again-off-again movement with most of them, until I finally had enough and cancelled/disconnected from basically everything a few months ago. The only exception was Pinterest.

Ever since Pinterest was discovered by my 14 yo self, it never left my computer or my phone; it was my go-to for class ideas, crochet patterns, styling, makeup, workouts, recipes... the list goes on. Until today, june 28th, I decided I had enough of it. Why, you ask? WELL...

One: too much AI. It became fucking impossible to run from it and it is too stressful to look for an image and have to go on a scavanger hunt for anything that is, well, real.

Two: my reccomendations have gotten progressively more gory and disturbing. Either on posts or adds, which leads me to...

Three: ADDS. For fuck's sake, there are more adds then pictures, and they are either scams (I was fooled once many years ago) or useless products.

Four: what the hell happened to the comment sections?? Pinterest used to be such a wholesome place! It was either "aaah, this is cool!" or "I tried it", and now it's instagram-enfuriating all over again. Hate, empty activism, entitlement, gatekeeping, bigotry. It's one racist comment away from becoming twitter.

So there we go, Pinterest was enshittified and I am sad. I unninstalled it from my phone and might keep the account only until I have time to gather my oh so overloaded archive and putting it on a flashdrive or something.
YEP, that's about it, life lost a little whimsy. YEP, I'm dramatic as hell.
